FILTERPAVE® surface covering

An innovative surface covering made from recycled crushed glass

The FilterPave® system is a heavy-duty, water-permeable, open-pored surface covering made from recycled crushed glass. With its excellent filter effect (rainwater), its absorption capacity for hydrocarbons and its attractive appearance, FilterPave is a high-performance and sustainable alternative in the field of environmentally friendly ground reinforcement.

Anyone who wants to make a sustainable contribution to preserving our environment should consider using the innovative FilterPave® system for the construction and design of driveways, cycle paths, public spaces and parking spaces. Its ecological properties help stop the ongoing soil sealing.

FilterPave® consists of 100% recycled glass and is absolutely reliable in its structural stability. The recycled waste glass is processed in a special process. With the addition of an elastic and at the same time high-strength elastomer adhesive (construction site) - absolutely harmless to water and nature after setting - a hard-wearing floor covering is created. The processing of used glass makes a lasting contribution to protecting other building materials (e.g. mineral gravel). FilterPave® is characterized by high water permeability. The water permeability of the FilterPave® system is comparable to the infiltration performance of an open-pored base course. Use FilterPave®!

Design surfaces with FILTERPAVE®

Compared to conventional asphalt or concrete surfaces, the decorative floor covering made of used glass offers a wide range of design options. On the one hand, the multi-colored used glass gravel varies depending on the region, which results in different color effects. In addition, with the use of additional additives (pigments), the appearance is changed via color accents in such a way that an optimal adaptation to the building or the environment as well as for special design requirements is possible

Floor protection with the FILTERPAVE® system

With a kind of filter effect, the FilterPave® system enables near-natural rainwater infiltration. Because FilterPave® absorbs hydrocarbons (e.g. from leaked engine/transmission oil or fuel residues) and can thus have a beneficial effect on biological processes, the conversion of hydrocarbons into harmless by-products. The special structure of the FilterPave® system prevents the spread of oily substances on the surface and thus reduces the risk of large-scale contamination. Tests have shown that up to 15 kg of oily substance can be bound per square meter of FilterPave® (University of Wisconsin)

Structural stability for a solid substrate

The components of the FilterPave® system are made of high-strength materials that require extremely little maintenance. FilterPave® surfaces do not need to be sealed again, because with FilterPave, crack repairs and ceiling renewals are a thing of the past. Due to the high degree of hardness of the used glass gravel, FilterPave® offers a highly durable surface (friction). The large proportion of pores and the high-strength yet flexible multi-component adhesive give FilterPave® an extremely high level of elasticity, which minimizes the risk of freeze-thaw damage. The service life of the FilterPave® system is comparable to the service life of other open-pored systems. The material structure does not change during the service life

Stormwater permeability

The stormwater permeability of the FilterPave® system is similar to the seepage performance of an open-graded base course. Rainwater is absorbed quickly and can seep directly into the ground or be redirected into the draina-ge facilities (e.g. canal, retention basin, or rain water storage vessel).

Mode of action

This is how a floor with FILTERPAVE® works

FilterPave® enables near-natural rainwater infiltration on solidly paved surfaces. If (precipitation) water hits a FilterPave® substrate, it can seep through the porous glass gravel structure directly into the ground without any time delay. The water is "cleaned" on its way through the recycling material. Like a filter, the FilterPave™ system absorbs hydrocarbons, residues from engine or transmission oil and fuel (up to 1.5 kg of oily substance per square meter of FilterPave™ - University of Wisconsin/USA test). In very waterlogged areas or low-lying areas where large amounts of water quickly collect, the water drainage of the FilterPave® system should be supported with an appropriate substructure or an additional storage/drainage system. The FilterPave® system provides a firm and stable ground cover.
